Change of Leadership at Fahan School

Dear Fahan Community,

I am writing to inform you of a change in leadership at Fahan School. The Board of Fahan School has been notified by Principal, Penny Curran-Peters, of her decision to terminate her contract early due to the need to be closer to family located in Newcastle. This is a particularly difficult time for families and we fully appreciate the desire to close that gap. Penny will step down from her role effective Friday 1 October. We thank Penny for her time and investment in our School, her work in developing the Strategic Plan and, importantly, her management and transition to 100% online learning during Tasmania’s peak lockdown period in 2020.

To manage this transition, an immediate and interim leadership structure has been implemented. With the desire to provide familiar and consistent leadership for this interim period, the Board has appointed longstanding member of our staff, Meg Lawson, in the role of Acting Principal for the time required to recruit a new Principal.

With over 25 years teaching experience and a long association with our School, including executive management of the Junior School, we know that Meg will take great care in assuming its interim leadership. Her passion for learning, commitment to the girls and respected status amongst staff will ensure the School maintains its high standards and community values.

Meg will certainly have tremendous support from our staff who are the backbone of our School. Amongst the 82-strong workforce we have over an extraordinary 600 years of tenure and experience specifically in making Fahan the School of which we are all so proud.

The Board has commenced the search for a new Principal. The executive education recruitment agency, Cordiner King, has been hired to support us in this endeavour.

We look forward to a busy term full of light, learning and creativity under Meg’s capable leadership, supported by Deputy Principal, Jack Machin, and the Senior Leadership Team. We are confident that all Fahan girls will have a wonderful end to the year and that our senior girls are well-prepared for the challenges of final assessments. I am sure our Year 12 cohort are also looking forward to the celebrations that have traditionally punctuated the end of their final year at Fahan School.

Yours sincerely

Lia Morris
Chair of the Fahan School Board
